As a man who tends to be more vulnerable, I’ve always struggled with being forced into more submissive or passive roles. Despite the dynamics of the relationship, I somehow find myself succumbing to my own weaknesses or insecurities when sharing space with others. My relationship with dance is heavily affected by this. Set to the Björk record of the same name, HYPERBALLAD explores the internal struggle between my soft masculinity and bold femininity. The overall aesthetic of the piece unifies Shakespearean and Kabuki theatre, with movement references to African rituals, Asian ballets, and camp culture. Like much of my work, it is an internal revelation shared with community in hopes of some release or resolve.

I hope to debut the work between 2026-2027.
